About the Artwork
This gold medallion, individually exhibited, is part of Pablo Picasso’s limited series of wearable sculptures created in collaboration with master goldsmith François Victor Hugo in the mid-1950s. Cast in 23-karat gold, the piece demonstrates Picasso’s exploration of form beyond canvas and paper, transforming his signature line into tactile, sculptural relief. The design features an abstracted human visage surrounded by radiating lines, evoking a sense of cosmic rhythm and reflecting the solar symbolism present in many of his ceramics from the same period.
Produced in a limited edition of twenty with two artist’s proofs per design, each medallion is signed by Picasso and marked with full assay and atelier stamps. Exhibited individually at Hedonist Gallery, this work functions as both an intimate sculpture and a striking expression of timeless artistry.
