About the Artwork

Visage au carton ondule, a simple, almost childlike face framed by a clock-like border. Roman numerals mark the outer ring, giving the impression of time surrounding a steady gaze. The lines inside the face are carefully etched, adding depth and texture to an otherwise playful form. Created in collaboration with François Victor Hugo, the piece was cast in 23 karat gold and intended to be worn close to the body. Like many of Picasso’s late designs, it balances wit with reflection, turning a symbol of passing time into something tender and personal. One of only 20 numbered editions, It remains a wearable work of art that continues to hold its quiet charm.

Each piece in the series was produced in an edition of 20, with two artist’s proofs per design, and was cast in a limited edition, signed by the artist, and marked with full assay and atelier stamps. Exhibited individually at Hedonist Gallery, this medallion stands as both an intimate sculpture and a statement of timeless form.
