About the Artwork
The set of 24 repoussé silver plates, created by Pablo Picasso between 1956 and 1967 in collaboration with François Hugo, features unique mythological motifs inspired by the South of France. These plates, produced in a limited edition of 20, carry the artist's stamped signature and come with original wooden presentation boxes. Picasso's journey into silver began with his exploration of ceramics, sparked by his 1946 visit to Madoura pottery in Vallauris, France. Over two decades, he developed a deep bond with Madoura’s proprietors, Suzanne and Georges Ramié, and experimented extensively with carving, etching, glazes, and paints in ceramics. This creative foundation informed his transition to silver work. Among the plates, "Profil de Jacqueline" honors his muse and second wife, Jacqueline Roque, reflecting the joy and playful inventiveness of this creative period.
