Tête géométrique

(1956)

Pablo Picasso

Spain (1881-1973)

About the Artwork

Cast in 23-karat gold, this medallion is part of a rare and highly sought-after series of wearable artworks conceived by Pablo Picasso and realized by François Victor Hugo in the 1950s. The design features a stylized human face set within a geometric field, reflecting Picasso’s exploration of the boundary between abstraction and portraiture. Surrounded by engraved glyphs reminiscent of ancient script, the work recalls the authority of archaic coinage and ceremonial seals, merging modernist innovation with archetypal symbolism.

Each medallion in the series was produced in an edition of twenty, with two artist’s proofs per design. Cast in a limited edition, every piece bears Picasso’s signature along with full assay and atelier stamps. Shown individually at Hedonist Gallery, this medallion functions as both an intimate sculpture and a timeless expression of form.
