About the Artwork

This medallion, cast in 23 karat gold, belongs to the rare and highly coveted series of wearable artworks conceived by Pablo Picasso and produced by François Victor Hugo in the 1950s. A stylized human face enclosed within a geometric field reveals Picasso’s fascination with the intersection of abstraction and portraiture. Framed by engraved glyphs that resemble archaic script, the composition evokes ancient coinage or ceremonial seals, linking modernist experimentation with archetypal forms.

Each piece in the series was produced in an edition of 20, with two artist’s proofs per design, and was cast in a limited edition, signed by the artist, and marked with full assay and atelier stamps. Exhibited individually at Hedonist Gallery, this medallion stands as both an intimate sculpture and a statement of timeless form.
