Madonna and the Veil, 2025

by Nikola Vudrag

About the Artwork

This sculpture reflects on the challenge of portraying the divine grace of Maryam, a figure whose beauty and sanctity lie beyond human depiction. Instead of revealing her face, the artist conceals it beneath a veil, allowing mystery to become the language of presence. The veil also captures a deeply human emotion, symbolizing a mother’s love, fear, and sorrow. Made from over 25,000 welded metal bars, the mesh both hides and reveals, transforming the piece into a quiet reflection on faith, tenderness, and the unseen divine.
